Job DescriptionThe General Mechanic Apprenticeship at Arconic Davenport Works is a developmental position with a career path to becoming a qualified Journey-Level General Mechanic.Candidates will enter a General Mechanic Training Program which will include both classroom and on-the-job training.To move to Journey-Level General Mechanic, successful candidates will be required to complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP) and pass journey-level testing requirements.
- Apprentices must be able to work a 24x7 Alternate Work Schedule.
- All Apprentices will be required to work off-shifts.
- All Apprentices must agree to Repayment Agreement requiring 3 years in the craft at Arconic after completion of the program.
ResponsibilitiesPass six months of probation. Attend and maintain grades for all classes that the individual is enrolled in. Complete IDP (individual development plan), and by the end of the program take and pass the Journey Level General Mechanic Exam. After that the responsibilities of a General Mechanic are as follows.A Maintenance General Mechanic performs the following job duties:
- Dismantles, moves, fabricates, redesigns, assembles, and installs mill equipment as well as building structures.
- Repairs and maintains mill equipment, building structures, and general plant utility systems following documented procedures.
- Performs predictive and preventative maintenance as well as diagnoses equipment and utility systems malfunction to determine root cause of failures.
- Checks, installs, cleans, adjusts and calibrates gauges, regulators, valves, cylinders and pumps.
- Uses gauges, instruments and testing equipment to perform laser alignment, ultrasonic testing, non-destructive testing, and vibration analysis on mill equipment and machines.
- Trouble shoot, repair, or adjust hydraulic and electro-hydraulic equipment systems.
- Maintains the operation of plant utility systems such as steam, water, natural gas, and compressed air.
- Makes roll changes and machine setups.
- Performs cutting, burning and certified welding.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams. Use imaging system to make updates and changes.
- Limited computer skills to order parts and input time, etc.
QualificationsMinimum Basic Qualifications:1. Must have a high school diploma or GED2. Must have one or more of the following.a. Previous completion of a Millwright Apprenticeship and/or received an associate degree in Mechanical Technology or related field.b. Completion of a certified mechanical program, transcripts showing completion of mechanical classes, or other mechanical certificationsc. Previous work experience in a mechanical fieldd. Must have previous work experience.3. Pass the General Mechanic Apprentice pre-employment test.4. Must pass the physical and drug screening test post offer of employment.5. Must be able to work off shifts and weekends.6. Must be able to work 12-hour workdays / some overtime is required.7. Apprentices must be able to attend evening classes if needed
