Overview:

Reporting to the President, the General Counsel is the Company lead for strategic legal advice and compliance matters, processes, budget and resourcing. This individual will provide Executive leadership with legal advice regarding transactional and operational matters and will work with Executive leadership to identify and mitigate legal issues.

What you will be doing:
  • Manages project claims mitigation and resolution for the Company. Works closely with Executive leadership, project management and external counsel to manage, track, mediate and resolve project and company claims.
  • Oversees legal contract reviews to ensure accurate and complete identification and mitigation of legal risk and updates company contract templates as necessary.
  • Oversees pre-bid contract reviews for the Company and is the legal lead for the Bid Review Committee processes.
  • Works closely with JV partners and external counsel to negotiate deals, completes closing paperwork and closing books.
  • Advises project stakeholders of potential disputes and recommends mitigation strategies.
  • Prepares and implements user manuals and training sessions for project contracts.
  • Reviews and supports submission requirements for all Requests for Proposals (RFP) in liaison with the proposal and Preconstruction teams.
  • Completes necessary compliance reports and training and liaison with the parent company compliance team as necessary.
  • Works closely with functional departments including finance, human resources, tax, treasury, insurance and other teams to provide accurate and timely legal guidance.
  • Supervises all Company external counsel and is responsible for managing retainer letters, budgets etc. with respect to matters assigned to external counsel.
  • Maintains knowledge of Companys values and strategic plan.
  • Perform additional assignments per managements direction.
What we are looking for:
  • Juris Doctor required.
  • 8+ years experience of post-bar professional legal experience required.
  • Experience in construction industry preferred.
  • In-house corporate legal experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, mentoring and influence skills.
  • Knowledge of construction JV and alternative and collaborative delivery project contracts required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and drafting skills.
  • Analytical and proven problem-solving skills.
  • High-integrity and able to maintain strict confidence with sensitive material and matters.
  • Strong collaboration and team player attitude.
  • Self-starter.
