What you'll do at OhioMHAS : - Organizes & conducts individualized activity programs based on patient's needs, abilities & interests; organizes group treatment programs based on commonality of patient's needs; plans & conducts special events & holiday programs; plans general recreational & entertainment activities; provides client escorts to/from those indoor/outdoor activities (e.g., physical fitness, social games, individual/dual sports, volleyball, basketball, walks), arts & crafts. Determines & obtains type/amount of supplies/equipment needed for activities, etc.; fills out appropriate CNA paperwork for client needs; provides trips in the community; inspects program work areas for safe & sanitary conditions & arranges necessary maintenance for work to be done or repairs to be made in activity areas. Organizes dances, cook outs, unit parties, off-ground trips & other special programs involving; plans, organizes & conducts Activity Therapy Treatment programs according to standards of care established for population served at Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare (e.g., deaf and/or hard of hearing, adult, geriatric, acute, intermediate, chronic, forensic, MI/MR, dual diagnosis).
- Participates in overall treatment planning process by gathering data & assisting treatment team in developing individual goals & objectives designed to reduce patients' psychotic symptoms/improve functioning, reports patient's response to treatment in progress notes as appropriate
- Completes incident reports as needed; Attends & participates in in service training sessions & workshops as required/approved (e.g., Crisis Intervention, CPR, First Aid, Fire Safety, Disaster Drills, computer/multimedia training); attends departmental meetings, conferences with involved community agencies and/or groups, miscellaneous committee meetings concerning various topics.
This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union) , with a pay range of
#26 on the
OCSEA Pay Range Schedule . Normal working hours are Dayshift - Monday through Friday, with rotating
Saturdays. This position is located within our Appalachian
Behavioral Healthcare Campus at
100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701 . Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at
Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for a pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
Additional Salary / Appointment Information: - Must be able to complete a 2 week (business days Monday-Friday) full time orientation.
- May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.
- Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment.

Qualifications Completion of associate degree in recreation; 12 mos. exp. in activity therapy or recreation. -Or completion of undergraduate core program in recreation area (e.g., physical education). -Or 24 mos. exp. as Activities Aide, 44210. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
