Your Role

As a Research Scientist, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to advancing the frontiers of AI. You will design and develop novel algorithms and methodologies to tackle both theoretical and applied challenges, with a strong emphasis on AI for Good. Your work will contribute to building AI systems that are safe, robust, sustainable, and inspiring

Focus Areas

Our current research spans a wide spectrum of domains, including:

  • AI for decision-making and orchestration
  • Trustworthy and explainable AI
  • Open-ended and lifelong learning systems
  • Sequential and time-series modelling
  • Multi-agent systems and artificial life (ALife)
  • Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Evolutionary computation and optimisation

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research and contribute to the global AI community
  • Design and execute experiments with rigorous evaluation frameworks
  • Develop and implement novel algorithms and prototypes
  • Analyse results, iterate rapidly, and refine approaches
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate research into scalable solutions
  • Publish findings in top-tier conferences and journals
  • Present research outcomes to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in AI/ML research
  • Proven track record of publications in venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, GECCO, ALife, etc.
  • Strong programming and implementation skills
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs and modern ML frameworks
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Passion for ethical AI and AI for Good initiatives

Compensation & Benefits

Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary for this position is between $220,000 to $240,000+ depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
