What You'll Be Doing:

Join Verizon's Financial Planning & Analytics Systems (FPAS) Augmented Analytics team as a Distinguished Engineer and lead the charge in transforming financial intelligence through Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, Looker, and Gen AI. You'll be a strategic technologist who partners closely with finance, strategy, and engineering stakeholders to develop scalable, AI-powered analytics solutions that drive insights, forecast performance, and optimize financial outcomes.

This is a high-visibility, impact-driven role where you'll architect next-gen data ecosystems, enable intelligent automation through Vertex AI, and redefine how financial decisions are made through data-driven storytelling.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the architecture and development of cloud-native augmented analytics solutions on GCP, using BigQuery, Looker, Vertex AI, and other Google Cloud technologies.
  • Building and scaling Gen AI applications using Vertex AI to support dynamic planning, financial scenario modeling, predictive forecasting, and automated executive summaries.
  • Partnering with FP&A leaders and business units to translate complex financial objectives into actionable AI-driven data products.
  • Designing robust semantic layers and financial data models in Looker to support advanced self-service reporting and ad hoc analysis.
  • Orchestrating end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion to insight using Dataflow, Cloud Composer, and Cloud Functions with enterprise-scale governance.
  • Enabling automated insights generation, anomaly detection, and natural language narratives to accelerate decision-making across finance operations.
  • Leading initiatives to operationalize ML models for cost optimization, revenue forecasting, margin analysis, and risk detection.
  • Driving continuous improvements in dashboard performance, UI/UX, and data trust through scalable frameworks and CoE-led best practices.
  • Providing technical mentorship to analysts, engineers, and data scientists across the FPAS ecosystem.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Six or more years of hands-on experience in analytics, data engineering, or financial data architecture.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Google Cloud Platform, with deep knowledge of BigQuery, Looker, and Vertex AI.
  • Proven experience delivering Gen AI or LLM-powered applications (e.g., summarization, classification, scenario generation).
  • Strong experience and skills in SQL, Python, Spark, and pipeline orchestration tools.
  • Demonstrated success in developing enterprise-level analytics platforms that deliver actionable insights for finance or strategy teams.
  • Experience designing financial reporting and planning systems, with a focus on performance, flexibility, and usability.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to engage senior finance leadership.
  • Experience with AI-driven forecasting, driver-based modeling, or scenario planning in FP&A contexts.
  • Strong background in LLM prompt engineering, model tuning, and in-context learning using Vertex AI.
  • Familiarity with financial and operational data sets such as general ledger, OPEX, CAPEX, revenue streams, and business KPIs.
  • Experience with advanced visualization best practices and UX/UI design in Looker.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data mesh, and multi-tenant environments in a financial systems context.
  • Leadership experience in building and scaling Gen AI capabilities across finance functions.
