MCPS Job Description: To be an athletics coach in MCPS, an applicant must be interviewed and hired by the principal or designee at the school where the coaching vacancy exists. Coaches are hired for one season and must be qualified, typically as qualified MCPS teachers or certified educators. Emergency coaches may be hired if no qualified MCPS staff are available.

Qualifications for Certified Coaches:

• Be an MCPS teacher or certified educator employed by MCPS
• Complete or be enrolled in the MCPS course Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED
• Complete/submit the online MCPS Application

Qualifications for Emergency Coaches:

• Level I: Be a certified teacher (not necessarily employed by MCPS), complete the MCPS course, and submit the application.
• Level II: Be a high school graduate, at least 21 years old, complete the MCPS course, and submit the application.
