OPPORTUNITY:

• Administrative support role for currently enrolled students.• This is an off campus Federal Work Study Position OR Tutor role.

Organization: Howard Evanston Community Center (HECC), Howard Area Clubhouse (Teen Arts and Technology Center)

Location: 1527 W. Morse Ave., Chicago, IL 60626RESPONSIBILITIES

Community: Howard Evanston Community Center is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing the skills of youth aged 10-18 years old. They specialize in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning and imprinting profitable skills onto the youth as they progress into their adult years. HECC has many hands-on experiences for youth such as creating intricate crochet creations, building 3D models, 3D printing, and designing video games.

The Clubhouse provides a creative, safe, and free out-of-school learning environment where young people from the community work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop new skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology.

  • Orient, welcome, and guide new Members (Youth)
  • Help to identify Members that might need extra support or encouragement
  • Provide general help to Members
  • Offer encouragement to Members
  • Work one-on-one with Members
  • Offer specific guidance or workshops in areas of expertise
  • Organize special projects (based on interest)
  • Support Members in thinking about career/college opportunities
  • Bring any serious concerns/issues to the attention of the Clubhouse Coordinator
  • Engage in your own learning and exploration

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.   • Must be an enrolled student at DeVry University.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a current student in good standing and possess a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed, motivated individuals.
  • People who sit around, waiting to be told what to do will not do well in this environment.
  • Interest in The Clubhouse
  • Experience and/or interest in working with young people
  • Technical and/or art skills or commitment to developing skills
  • Curiosity and interest in learning more about technology, working with young people, and being part of the Clubhouse Community
  • Open to new people and ideas
  • Background checks are required
