Position Type: Student Health Services Date Posted: 8/15/2025 Location: Corporation Date Available: Upon Board Approval Closing Date: Until Filled TITLE: SCHOOL NURSING ASSISTANT GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The School Nursing Assistant provides students care under the professional guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse in the school setting as well as the school principal. This care will be provided in accordance with school district policies, professional standards, physician's orders, individual education plans, section 504 plans and nursing care plans. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certified as a CNA or as a Medical Assistant
  • Experience with children in a school health setting is preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to collaborate with the support services team to support access to learning and activities.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills when evaluating student's health
  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding health and other information for all students and staff.
  • Requires the physical ability to safely assist students with health needs and disabilities.
  • Requires the ability and confidence to handle emergency situations in a calm and competent manner.
  • REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing, and to the school Principal PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES STUDENT HEALTH AND OTHER NEEDS
  • Supervision of students/safety
  • Perform health treatments under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Document health care given
  • Complete student assessments including heartrate, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry readings.
  • Follow emergency action plans and health plans written by a Registered Nurse.
  • Perform first aid as needed
  • Administer medications under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Notify the Registered Nurse and Principal of emergency and other critical situations.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. While performing the duties of the job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle or feel. The employee should be able to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, kneel, or crouch. The employee may have to lift or reposition students as well as move equipment or supplies. The above list is not exhaustive therefore the employee may be asked to complete other duties from time to time.
