The Public Theater was founded in 1954 on the principles that theater is an essential cultural force and that art and culture belong to everyone. The Public is seeking an organized and outgoing individual to join our front desk team. As a Front Desk Attendant, you will serve as the face of The Public and as a liaison between artists and staff, and between departments. Applicants from populations underrepresented in the theater field are strongly encouraged to apply. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive all artists, staff, and visitors at Public Studios (440 Lafayette Street) & at 425 Lafayette Street
  • Serve as the point of contact for Public Theater staff on behalf of the Operations Department, relaying building maintenance and other requests
  • Keep track of studio activity and manage lobby traffic and studio access
  • Interact with studio scheduling software, assist in resolving day-of scheduling requests and conflicts, and support schedule upkeep
  • Answer front desk phone and slack channels, responding to inquiries and directing to appropriate staff members
  • Manage and track all lost and found items
  • Keep Front Desk systems and software up to date
  • Accept/Track deliveries from mail carriers, vendors, catering, individual food etc.
  • Assist with studio equipment tracking, requests, and keeping storage of items organized
  • Re-set studios as needed
  • Support ID making & distribution
  • Complete shift report and effectively communicate incidents, follow ups, etc.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned
SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, and QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong customer service, communication, and phone skills
  • Exceptional ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Knowledge of general theatre production principles
  • General understanding/ability to articulate The Public Theater's mission and programming
  • Ability to follow standard department processes and operating procedures
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to operate and maintain various types of software and other technologies
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Flexibility in schedule with evening & weekend availability
  • Ability to work autonomously
Compensation:
  • $21.42/hour
  • Part time position with variable hours
This is a non-exempt position, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Position is available immediately.
