To be considered for this position, candidates must be serving permanently in the title of Administrative City Planner, be reachable on the open competitive civil service list (Exam No. 1143), or be eligible under the 55a program.

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting economic and social vitality. Urban freight logistics, primarily via trucks, are vital for supporting NYC's residents, businesses, and tourism, but they also contribute to congestion, pollution, and infrastructure stress.

The Freight Mobility unit seeks a dedicated Senior Operations Manager to oversee key initiatives, including the USDOT-funded Urban Freight Collaborative RAISE grant and NYC DOT's Freight Advisory Committee. Responsibilities include managing project timelines and budgets, stakeholder engagement, content development for newsletters, and supporting cross-functional projects.

The ideal candidate should have excellent communication, project management, stakeholder engagement skills, experience in grant administration and strategic planning, and a background in urban freight, logistics, or transportation systems. Proficiency in data analysis, transportation planning tools, visualization software, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office is preferred.

This role offers an opportunity to work with various stakeholders to improve NYC's freight infrastructure and policy landscape.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of full-time city planning experience, including at least eighteen (18) months in a managerial capacity; or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience, with a baccalaureate degree and at least eighteen (18) months of managerial experience in city planning. Graduate work or law degree may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.
  • Preferred Skills

    Excellent oral and written communication, strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills, experience with grant administration and strategic planning, background in urban freight or transportation, proficiency in data analysis and visualization software, and familiarity with Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office.
