Freelance Digital Reporter - The US Sun : Job Details

Part of News Corp, The Sun is a global publisher and one of the biggest news brands in the UK. Our talented and diverse team publishes the best coverage of news, sports, TV, showbiz, and lifestyle.

In early 2020 we launched a US edition, and within 18 months became the fastest-growing news site in the US with a staff of nearly 150.

We are currently seeking freelance reporters for the news desk.

Recent graduates with some digital newsroom and more seasoned professionals are welcome.

This is an incredible opportunity to help shape our future development from the ground up, with plenty of potential for a staff contract for outstanding freelancers.

Shift rates start at $200.

Candidates must have weekend and night availability. This is not a Monday-to-Friday position.

The office is based in Midtown Manhattan but remote candidates will be considered.

Weekday shifts run from 8am-5pm, 9am-6pm, and 5pm-1am.

Weekend shifts run from 8am to 5pm, 9am to 6pm, 1pm-10pm and 4pm to 12am.

Key Accountabilities:

• You will turn around copy quickly and accurately, mindful of legal issues.
• You will write concisely and entertainingly.
• You will identify trending and newsworthy stories and subjects that will drive traffic.
• You will work with the video desk and picture desk.
• You will interview people as required.
• Work on blogs

Skills and experience:

• Experience in a similar position, or a position with directly transferable skills.
• Experience using WordPress or similar as well as a picture management system.
• Experience working on breaking news stories.
• Strong understanding of social media.
• Strong analytics knowledge and how to use data to select stories to maximize daily traffic.
