Camp Linwood MacDonald YMCA invites you to join a very caring and committed team at the beautiful 200+ acre camp in northwest New Jersey. We are seeking a seasonal Food Services Manager responsible for the overall food service operation including purchasing, preparation, nutrition, service, personnel management, customer service, and record keeping. The position has a strong emphasis on leadership, safety, and sanitation, the three key elements to a successful operation. All staff will be required to model the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in their work each day. The YMCA's recruitment process includes comprehensive background check including pre-employment drug test and criminal background check. Summary of Essential Functions: 1. Manage the daily operations of the camp food and dining service including coordinating activities between the food service department and other departments.

  • Oversee and conduct the planning and preparation of nutritionally balanced camp meals, snacks, and pack-out food.
  • Ensure safe and efficient preparation and serving of camp meals and through proper direction for the staff to carry out accordingly.
  • Coordinate menu planning for user groups and to meet the program requirements - i.e., Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program.
  • Meet and exceed all state food service regulations.
  • Pass state inspections, gaining a satisfactory food service rating.
  • Enforce kitchen security ensuring all supplies are secure and free of contamination.
2. Oversee the inventory and ordering of food, equipment, and supplies and ensure the routine maintenance, sanitation, and upkeep of the camp kitchen, its equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain inventory of food and household supplies.
  • Order food and kitchen supplies consistent with menus and enrollment counts.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
  • Clean and maintain all food-service areas, including kitchen, dining hall, storage, loading dock, and kitchen recycling.
  • Inspect equipment and ensure equipment is repaired as necessary.
  • Promote practices that seek to reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as much as possible.
3. Manage all administrative and human-resource functions regarding food service department employees.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring of all food service department staff.
  • Train all food service staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and supervise the work of food service staff.
  • Monitor employee performance and training.
4. Contribute to the overall design, planning and implementation of Camp Linwood MacDonald's operations and serve as an exemplary role model for staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Enforce safety protocol and report concerns to the Branch Executive Director. Caution participants regarding safe vs. unsafe behaviors.
  • Fill out accident reports thoroughly as accidents occur, distributing them according to protocol.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions and ensure cleanliness of facility.
  • Provide excellent customer service and care for all including but not limited to internal and external customers /members/ residents/ visitors/ clients/ patrons/ vendors/ suppliers/ members of public/volunteers/staff.
  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Perform such other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.
  • Cooperate; work effectively and congenially with all YMCA staff members, volunteers, and members of the Association.
5. Adhere to Abuse Risk Management policies:
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with participants.
  • Attend required abuse risk management training.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising participants.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Minimum three years of experience in the area of food operation.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to understand positive guidance and reinforcement techniques within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA.
  • Ability to react to emergency situations within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA and in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and make sound decisions within the guidelines of the YMCA.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of members and guests in a professional manner, displaying tact and diplomacy when needed.
  • Current and valid certification in CPR and 1st Aid or obtained upon hire.
  • Prior experience in organized camping, or institutionalized food service and possessing New Jersey Food Handlers Certification is desired.
Physical Demands:
  • Sufficient strength, ability, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to perform activities in a wide variety of outdoor locations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site, facilities, and camper and staff behavior.
  • Ability to safely and proper use food service equipment to include but not limited to slicers, knives, food processer, ovens, tilt skillet/brazier, dishwasher, warming box, steam table, cook top, burners, and refrigeration / freezers.
  • Ability to provide first aid &/or CPR and to assist campers and staff in an emergency.
