At Mahaska Health, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Food Service Member to join our hospital's food and nutrition service team. In the fast-paced environment of healthcare, our Food Service Member play a crucial role in providing nutritious and appealing meals to patients, staff, and visitors. This position is essential in maintaining the highest standards of food safety and sanitation while ensuring that all dietary needs are met. You will be responsible for preparing, serving, and cleaning up after meals, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for everyone. The primary role of the Food Service Member is to be responsible for daily operations in the cafeteria and kitchen to include preparation of salads, sandwiches, and gelatins, operating cash register, serving meals, cleaning dishes and food service areas Hours: Part-time (4:00pm - 7:30pm)Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to,
- Prepare and serve meals according to established menus and dietary requirements
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in food preparation and serving areas
- Set up cafeteria serving line and salad bar.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations to ensure food safety and sanitation.
- All food items must be dated and labeled with the month and day. Food will be rotated on first-in-first-out rotation. This position is responsible to check food and supplies for spoilage.
- Patient trays and snacks will be prepared in accordance with physician's diet order and the dietician-approved menu. Selective menus will also be prepared with the diet order and the menu.
- Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) when performing job duties.
- Ability to operate kitchen/cafeteria machinery.
- Deliver/pick up meal trays and snacks to patient care areas in a timely manner.
- Stock supplies in the kitchen and throughout hospital; store groceries in proper locations upon delivery.
- Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated on food service protocols and practices
Job Requirements include but are not limited to,
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in food service or a healthcare setting preferred
- Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Physical stamina to perform tasks that require standing for extended periods and lifting heavy items
- Subject to cold and/or hot temperature changes throughout the day in kitchen and storage areas, ranging from -5° in freezers to 450° from the ovens.
- May be subjected to noise levels from motor compressors and/or fans running continuously.
- Flexible hours to meet the needs of the department.
