We have a contractual relationship with Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools to provide a variety of support services to the schools in NE Los Angeles and the NE San Fernando Valley. This includes but is not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Operations, IT and Data Management, facilities identification and acquisition, fundraising, grant management, college access, alumni relations, charter development and renewal, and compliance. The Team Member we are searching for The ideal Food Service Assistant believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC National and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, and collaboration to ensure schools' success across the organization. The Food Service Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of food service programs across multiple PUC School sites. This role involves traveling to different schools to ensure smooth and efficient food service delivery, adherence to health and safety standards, and effective communication with school staff and vendors. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent customer service skills, a passion for nutrition and student well-being, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. What you will need to accomplish:
  • Assist with food service requests throughout the network, including requests related to the After-School Snack Programs, field trips, and Summer Seamless Feeding Program
  • Organize monthly summary reports in shared folder per school site
  • Organize vendor invoices in shared folder
  • Complete yearly Site Monitoring Review Reports
  • Assist with scheduling staff training and keep track of events in the Food Services Calendar
  • Assist with creating the Local Wellness Policy (LWP) Update for schools
  • Prepare and distribute summer meal notifications to schools
  • Responsible for completing annual training; including but not limited to Civil Rights, Food Handler and Food Safety program
  • Assist operations department for equipment repairs and track inventory at each school site
  • Track and file Food Handler Certificates for the network; including before and after-school staff
  • Maintain records as required by USDA
  • Track Incident IQ tickets
  • Assist with scheduling special events at school sites, parent meetings, and student advisory groups
  • Represent the Food Services Department at meetings as required; maintain various reports and records
  • Apply federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures as they pertain to the feeding and nutritional needs of public-school students
  • Operate office machines including computer equipment and specified software
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards that are essential to the successful performance of this position.
  • Travel to all school site locations in the LA and Valley Region 80% of the time and 20% at the PUC National office
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, food quality standards, and PUC policies
  • Perform other related work as required

QualificationsWhat do we require from you?Minimum Qualifications Education:
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, related field, or equivalent training and experience preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in an educational setting/food service operation
  • Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience with school nutrition procedures and food safety regulations
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with multiple school sites preferred
  • Knowledge of concepts and application of scheduling and excellent time management experience required
  • Analyzing and interpreting data - previous experience drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative and/or qualitative data preferred
Additional Information:
  • Valid CA driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Food handler's certificate required
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular hours, including early mornings or evenings, as needed
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations related to the operation of site kitchens.
  • Ability to research, design, develop and present materials as applied to training and informational programs.
  • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, and equipment, including clerical record-keeping, filing, and distribution systems and techniques
  • Excellent customer service Skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience creating presentations using tools such as Canva
  • Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems such as Titan/LINQ
  • Proficient with the California Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS) or willing to learn how to utilize CNIPS for state reimbursement purposes
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and excellent with time management
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb, and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc. Compensation & Benefits:
