The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for various building types, including public, municipal, private, and Federal projects across the region and worldwide. Our team specializes in sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources, delivering engineering excellence with a focus on sustainable design and energy conservation.

The HDR BES group in New Jersey is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer/Specialist to join our team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support and lead fire protection aspects of complex projects like hospitals, research facilities, and data centers.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques to address fire protection issues.
  • Design fire protection systems, including wet, dry, and specialty systems.
  • Manage drawings, specifications, schedules, budgets, and supervise staff.
  • Coordinate with clients and contractors, and develop hydraulic calculations using software.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of drawings, mentor staff, perform field verifications, and interpret codes.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and review shop drawings.
  • Assist in writing project specifications and monitor construction progress on-site.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Fire Protection PE License preferred; without it, the title is 'Fire Protection Specialist.'
  • Experience with fire alarm, life safety, and detection systems; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit is advantageous; local candidates are preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or high school diploma with relevant experience.
  • Entry-level NFPA, ICC Certifications, or related credentials.
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; experience with specialty software is a plus.
  • Active participation in our employee-owned culture is essential.
