Fire Protection Engineer

Kansas City, Missouri

As part of the Buildings Group for Garver, the Fire Protection Engineer will be responsible for developing fire protection designs supporting various Buildings Business Line projects. This includes leading the planning, design, and commissioning of:

  • Building fire protection systems
  • Building fire suppression systems
  • Building fire alarm systems

Additional responsibilities include coordination with other disciplines and regional offices, assisting project managers, following quality assurance and control plans, and periodic travel to project sites.

Required abilities and attributes:

  • Knowledge of fire protection, suppression, and alarm principles
  • Mentoring and training technical staff
  • Interfacing with clients on project design, delivery, and construction
  • Managing project budgets and schedules
  • Overseeing fire protection design through all project phases
  • Utilizing BIM software for drawings
  • Using calculation tools for design calculations
  • Managing multiple assignments concurrently
  • Time management and quality responsibility
  • Adhering to QA/QC plans
  • Commitment to continuing education

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with Fire Protection certification
  • 5-10 years of experience in building design and construction
  • Knowledge of fire protection engineering principles
  • Experience overseeing fire protection designs
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and MS Office Suite

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with AIA MasterSpec
  • Knowledge of federal agency design criteria
