The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country, with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for City government, agencies, employees, vendors with City contracts, and entities receiving City funds.

DOI Fingerprint Unit

The unit is responsible for retrieving, reviewing, and analyzing fingerprint results for individuals applying to work in childcare settings under NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene oversight.

Position: Squad 4 - Principal Administrative Associate

This role involves retrieving electronic fingerprint results, conducting reviews and analyses, performing research and outreach, maintaining records within internal systems, processing reports, and handling related administrative tasks. The candidate may also handle public and agency complaints and assist in confidential investigations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of full-time clerical/administrative experience, including one year in a supervisory role; or
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits plus four years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience; or
  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus five years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience; or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience, with at least one year of supervisory experience. Education above high school may substitute for experience at a rate of 30 semester credits for six months, up to three years.

  • Excellent verbal communication, active listening, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong written communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Adobe PDF;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle unforeseen challenges;
  • Analytical skills to assess and draw conclusions from various sources;
  • Experience with investigative, legal, journalistic, or academic research.
