Finance Director
Summary:
Acts as the senior financial leader for a community-based operation, partnering with executive leadership to drive performance, ensure financial accuracy, and support strategic decision-making. Responsible for all accounting and finance functions, business planning, internal controls, and financial compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, supervise, and mentor accounting staff; conduct timely performance evaluations; support ongoing training and professional development to ensure team growth and high performance.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements; review for consistency with internal standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide detailed reporting and commentary to support operational leaders in understanding business performance and making informed decisions.
- Lead the annual budget process and quarterly forecast updates; coordinate with department heads to ensure alignment of financial plans with operational goals; monitor budget-to-actual performance.
- Establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures that ensure compliance with applicable standards and promote operational integrity; regularly assess control effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Act as a key business partner to the Executive Director and community management team; provide financial input and recommendations on strategic initiatives, capital planning, and cost management.
- Coordinate with internal audit and compliance teams; support audit readiness and execution; ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Collaborate with tax, treasury, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial systems teams to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in shared financial processes.
- Conduct financial modeling, scenario analysis, and business case development to evaluate new initiatives, process improvements, or cost-saving opportunities.
- Review tax schedules and filings in coordination with external and internal partners to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, automate manual processes, and enhance visibility into financial performance through dashboards or other tools.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including 5+ years in leadership.
- Experience in operations-focused or service-oriented industries is highly preferred.
- CPA or MBA is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead through influence, manage competing priorities, and deliver results.
