Job Summary:
This role reports to the Head of Financial Crimes Transaction Monitoring and focuses on establishing GFCD Operations Intelligence & Analytics capabilities for BTMU. It is a key position within the new Global Financial Crimes Division Operations, responsible for:
- Identifying detection scenarios
- Providing analytics support for developing, tuning, and optimizing transaction monitoring and screening systems
- Customer segmentation
- Coordinating scenario implementation to detect financial crime
- Creating statistically representative samples to ensure risk detection below thresholds
The incumbent will support leadership in ensuring a globally consistent effort to improve transaction monitoring and mitigate financial crime risks.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing mathematical or statistical models to interpret customer KYC and transaction data for segmentation and monitoring
- Identify relationships and trends in transactional data for AML monitoring
- Analyze clusters and relationships, presenting findings via data visualization tools
- Create statistical samples for testing transaction monitoring effectiveness
- Process large data sets for modeling and analysis
- Perform model validation, documenting rationales and assumptions
- Develop and test experimental designs and analytical methods for emerging risks
- Develop data mining methodologies using techniques like logistic regression, random forest, XGBoost, Bayesian networks
- Develop models involving tuning, calibration, segmentation, and optimization
- Create policies and procedures for AML transaction monitoring lifecycle
- Participate in strategic optimization programs to enhance MUFGs GFCD monitoring systems
- Provide recommendations on customer segmentation and system optimization across business lines
Coordinate with regional teams to implement global models and work collaboratively within GFCD to ensure effective operations.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of mathematics, especially statistics
- Proficiency in R or Python for data analytics and customer segmentation
- Problem-solving skills using mathematical and deductive reasoning
- 0-2 years of experience in designing, analyzing, testing, or validating AML models or sanctions screening models
- Experience with financial crime and compliance systems
- Strong quantitative testing and statistical analysis skills, including machine learning techniques
- Familiarity with compliance regulations (e.g., FRB, SEC, OCC, FATF, FinCEN, OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act)
- Experience with compliance program tuning and scenario analytics
- Knowledge of programming platforms like SAS, Matlab, R, Python, SQL, VBA
- Familiarity with vendor models such as Hotscan, Actimize, RDC, and others
- Understanding of model risk management and related regulations
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field; advanced degrees preferred
- Experience working with executive leadership and compliance experts
- Strong execution skills in complex situations, interpersonal communication, systemic thinking, and process orientation
- Excellent presentation skills and an enterprise risk management perspective

- Understanding of effective financial crimes risk management frameworks

Education:
Bachelors in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, or related field required; Masters or Doctorate preferred.
