Our client, a long standing, time-honored ~$50M Community based Non-Profit Organization based in Manhattan, is seeking a Controller to join their growing Accounting and Finance department. This position will report into the Deputy CFO, manage a small team, and lead some transactional accounting, month end closes, audits, and 990s prep for the whole entire organization.

• 40+ PTO Days + Summer Fridays
• Fully covered medical, dental, and vision for individuals
• Hybrid schedule and convenient Manhattan location

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
• Perform bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, and transactional accounting during heightened periods
• Manage annual audit prep. 990 prep, and additional tax requirement
• Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Provide financial analysis and insights to assist leadership in decision-making, budgeting, and strategic planning.
• Ensure proper accounting procedures are followed for all financial activities.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and all regulatory requirements.
• Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements in accounting systems, processes, and policies.
• Lead and motivate a team of finance professionals, setting clear expectations and fostering collaboration, high performance, and professional growth.
• Collaborate with other departments (Development, Programs, Operations) to align financial strategies with organizational goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant field; MS, MBA, CPA a plus
• 3+ years independently leading month end closes within a $25M+ Non-Profit
• 2+ years of management experience
• Strong technical, analytical, communication and presentation skills
• Experience with an enterprise accounting system
