Position: Director of Operations - 9 States | 80 Stores | 1,000 Employees

Location: Remote within territory: IN, WI, MI, OH, MD, DC

Compensation: Up to $150K–$160K + 20% Bonus + Equity, DOE

The Role

The Director of Operations oversees growth in people, sales, and profits within their assigned regions, covering IL, WI, IN, MI, OH, KY, MD, VA, DC, with 80 locations, 8 District Managers, 80 GMs, and approximately 1,000 employees. The scope includes two brands: Einstein Bros. Bagels and Bruegger's Bagels.

The Director manages team performance by advising and supporting management teams, fostering behaviors that drive positive results. Key focus areas include increasing sales and profitability, guest satisfaction, cost control, and retention of managers and hourly staff. The role involves coaching restaurant leaders to operate within standards and exceed operational and financial goals.

Role-Specific Abilities

  • Hold Managers and District Managers accountable for achieving sales growth, profitability, guest loyalty, and operational excellence through action plans.
  • Ensure General Managers and District Managers uphold performance and ethical standards.
  • Develop, train, and mentor District Managers to enhance leadership capabilities.
  • Participate in performance reviews for high-performing GMs and develop improvement plans.
  • Implement new policies and procedures effectively and ensure cultural integration.
  • Administer recognition, counseling, or discipline as needed.
  • Communicate goals and plans clearly, promoting teamwork and open communication.
  • Review personnel and succession planning with HR regularly.

Guest Experience

Utilize SMG to evaluate guest satisfaction, develop improvement plans, and resolve guest complaints.

P&L | Sales | Profit | Strategy

Implement local marketing initiatives, evaluate their impact, and review weekly/monthly P&L results. Develop action plans to meet or exceed sales and profit targets. Review and adjust annual budgets to meet financial objectives, ensuring compliance with operational and accounting standards.

Compliance | Risk Mitigation | Quality Control

Ensure food quality, handling, sanitation, and recipe adherence. Follow up on health inspections and develop improvement strategies. Oversee safety practices and facility maintenance, promoting safety and risk management programs to control costs and ensure safety.

Experience & Education

  • 5–10 years in multi-unit food service, hospitality, or retail management, with supervisory experience of multiple units preferred.
  • Proven leadership and coaching skills, business acumen, results orientation, service mindset, and change management ability.
  • Must be able to read, count, and complete documentation in English.
  • Availability for varied hours, including early mornings and weekends.
  • Pass background checks as required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred. ServSafe Certification or equivalent required prior to leadership training.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 50% monthly, including overnight trips.
