Location: Syracuse Reports To: Steven Barrett Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fire Alarm Service Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and installation of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes, manufacturer specifications, and company standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance of fire alarm systems (conventional and addressable).
- Troubleshoot and repair existing fire alarm system issues, including wiring, control panels, and detection devices.
- Install and commission new fire alarm systems in both new construction and retrofit projects.
- Complete accurate service reports, deficiency documentation, and maintain records of work performed.
- Respond to emergency service calls and provide timely solutions.
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire and life safety codes (e.g., NFPA 72).
- Communicate effectively with customers and team members to ensure work is performed to satisfaction.
- Stay up to date with current industry trends, codes, and technology advancements.
- Ability to learn other services such as Fire Sprinkler, Extinguishers, and Kitchen Suppression
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required, technical training or certifications a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in fire alarm service, installation, or a related field.
- NICET certification (Level I or higher) preferred.
- Working knowledge of fire alarm systems from manufacturers such as Notifier, Siemens, Honeywell, Simplex, Edwards, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces when necessary.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Stand, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Work in varying environments, including indoors, outdoors, and mechanical/electrical rooms.
- The job may require moderate physical labor including activities such as lifting equipment, climbing ladders, or working in confined spaces.
