Field Operations Manager
FLSA: Exempt
Relationships: Reports to president.
Position Summary:
The Field Operations Manager is responsible for the on-site management of pipeline construction projects, ensuring that all activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, schedules, budgets, and quality standards. This role acts as the primary liaison between the field team, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, while also enforcing safety protocols, resolving challenges, and maintaining effective communication throughout the pipeline construction process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to team members, ensuring safe, dependable, and efficient operations in accordance with safety, environmental, and company policies.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for operations and field activities.
- Oversee recruitment, retention, and development of a qualified workforce to support operational needs, including participating in hiring processes and onboarding new employees.
- Manage human, physical, and financial resources to meet customer requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate team performance, ensuring work is organized and compliant with laws and regulations.
- Communicate and negotiate with union representatives regarding labor contracts.
- Handle incidents and safety events, collaborating with the Safety Department for reviews.
- Work with Safety to set goals and improve policies.
- Report project and safety status to the company's leadership.
- Manage disciplinary actions and address team member concerns.
- Assess team capabilities and plan training and staffing accordingly.
- Conduct performance reviews and develop growth opportunities for team members.
- Review and recommend performance-based compensation actions.
- Manage budgets, expenditures, and oversee administrative functions.
- Review contracts and support project disputes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least eight years of related experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
- Knowledge of operational, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Project management skills with the ability to handle multiple issues concurrently.
- Strong communication, leadership, and team development skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote locations.
- Background check and drug screening required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in construction management software.
- Knowledge of local building codes and OSHA standards.
- Leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and problem-solve under pressure.
Working Environment:
- Minimum 45% travel to sites.
- Work involves active construction sites with exposure to weather, noise, and physical demands, including occasional evening or weekend hours.
