Are you a transitioning Civil or Structural Engineer from the military looking to apply your skills in a high-impact, technical, and mission-driven civilian career?We are seeking licensed Professional Engineers (P.E.) with a background in civil or structural engineering-particularly those who have served in the military-to join our team as Field Engineers in Houston, Dallas, or Austin, Texas. This is an opportunity to transition your engineering discipline into the dynamic and growing field of Forensic Engineering, where your attention to detail, leadership under pressure, and field experience will be highly valued.Position Summary:As a Field Engineer, you'll be responsible for conducting on-site inspections of buildings and infrastructure following catastrophic events (e.g., hurricanes, floods, fires, structural failures). You will determine the cause and extent of structural damage, develop findings reports, and when necessary, provide repair recommendations. This position also supports legal cases, so clear and professional communication is critical.You will work closely with the Principal Engineer and manage multiple investigations simultaneously, combining your engineering knowledge with problem-solving and technical writing.What Makes You a Good Fit:Military-trained Civil or Structural Engineer seeking to apply your expertise in real-world, post-catastrophe environments.Strong interest in transitioning into Forensic Engineering-training and mentorship provided.Detail-oriented with a professional demeanor.Comfortable in both field and office environments, with strong analytical and communication skills.Motivated, independent, and mission-focused-just like your military background taught you.Core Responsibilities:Perform structural damage assessments on residential, commercial, and industrial properties.Analyze field data, review photos, and compile formal engineering reports.Manage your case load and ensure timely completion of investigations.Attend industry training, professional development seminars, and possibly provide expert witness testimony (with support).Collaborate with colleagues, clients, and occasionally legal teams.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited)Professional Engineer (P.E.) License - required (or must be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire in TX)Military engineering experience or equivalent in construction, facilities, or structural assessment roles2+ years of field experience (military construction, structural inspections, or forensic experience a plus)Strong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred But Not Required:NCEES Record (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying)Experience with forensic investigations or construction managementFamiliarity with CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and field inspection tools (moisture meters, ladders, etc.)Tools & Equipment You'll Use:Digital camera, ladder, moisture meter, tape measure, digital levelLaptop and software tools (MS Word, Excel, browser-based applications)Cell phone or desktop IP phoneRope and harness (safety gear provided)Work Conditions:Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access rooftops or crawl spaces.Field work may include exposure to weather, heights, and confined spaces.Work is a mix of indoor reporting and outdoor on-site assessments.
