FiberTel, LLC is looking for a Fiber Splicer Technician for our San Jose, CA market.

The Fiber Splicer Technician position is a skilled role. The individual will be competent and authorized to work in this field, with experience and knowledge to perform all duties of a fiber splicer. The Splicer will generally oversee 1 employee and may provide on-the-job training to the Splicing Laborer. This position requires flexible hours, with occasional on-call duties including night and weekend work. The Splicer will frequently communicate with customers in a professional manner.

Responsibilities:

• Install and repair fiber optics.
• Assist in fiber optic splicing.
• Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
• Flag traffic when required.
• Flexibility to work in multiple locations.
• Prepare splice locations, termination points, and install splice closures.
• Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment daily.
• Splice loose tube fiber.
• Operate bucket truck and splicing equipment.
• Identify issues with fiber using red light.
• Construct proper splice cases.
• Submit daily time cards for crew members.
• Place a mid-sheath splice and fill out audit sheets per location (per splice).
• Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR.
• Follow all safety rules and regulations.
• Update job completion sheet.
• Pull fiber when needed.
• Complete cut sheet and perform pre-trip vehicle inspection (daily).
• Ability to work at night / various hours.

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible to obtain the required license for the position.
• A good driving record is required.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment safe operation.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus (higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees.
• Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
• Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs with or without assistance.
• Knowledge of fiber optic color code and numbers.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
• Understanding of terminology used in fiber splicing.
• Experience splicing fiber including all necessary steps (2-3 years preferred).

• Previous fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
• Ability to travel.

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This role operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high winds. The environment may vary in terrain and setting. Occasional exposure to natural gas and risk of electrical shock, with exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.

The employee must be able to stand for long periods (up to 12 hours), tolerate extreme weather, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, and perform prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay is based on knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee.

Compensation Range: The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $26.00/Hr. - USD $34.00/Hr. depending on experience and qualifications. FiberTel, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
