PRIMARY FUNCTION

Our Federal | Transportation team is looking to add an experienced team member to act as our Operations Leader. The candidate should have broad expertise and be enthused about joining HED's shared commitment to Advancing Your World through Critical Thinking, Integrated Practice, and Design Excellence. At HED, we look to Sector Operations Leaders to lead and direct overall project management and operations activities for the sector nationwide. The role supports the business leader and sector leaders in managing operational processes with a focus on improving project performance for the sector.

In coordination with the business leader, review and approve proposals regarding scope, risk, and resource management. Serve as an interface between corporate operations and finance concerning project financial reports. The Operations Leader also engages with peers firm-wide to coordinate staff assignments.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Assist project managers with up-front planning to provide quality documents within established hour budgets and support them in meeting performance objectives.
  • Assist with the recruitment and development of highly qualified project managers with relevant sector expertise.
  • Conduct performance and feedback reviews with project managers assigned to the sector and provide input for year-end salary and promotion recommendations.
  • Ensure project managers follow the HED design process and complete quality review milestones.
  • Work with project managers and teams to advance client objectives and support HED core principles.
  • Support evaluation of professional service consultants with sector and project leadership.
  • Assist project leadership in reviewing prime and consultant agreements to mitigate risk, coordinating review by legal services as required.
  • Monitor financial performance of sector projects and guide project managers when financial goals are not met.
  • Aid corporate finance in current project financial performance analysis for monthly and year-end projections.
  • Assist with developing fees and proposals, analyzing scope, resources, and risk management.
  • Evaluate sector workload, staff assignments, project planning, and quality assurance, coordinating sharing of resources across sectors.
  • Collaborate with other operations leaders to improve workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and lead weekly sector staffing and operations meetings.
  • Lead and monitor daily operational activities, providing guidance on standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Use weekly meetings to discuss issues and provide direction on sector and project activities.
  • Represent the company in emergencies related to jobsites and clients, in partnership with the business leader.
  • Review and monitor risk management issues with HR and legal services.
  • Represent the company in the professional community.
  • Function as project manager or principal-in-charge/project director for certain clients.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the business leader and corporate operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field; relevant experience may substitute.
  • Professional Licensure required.
  • LEED Accreditation is a plus.
  • Minimum fifteen years' professional experience in the A/E industry.
  • Extensive operational management experience.
  • Experience in project financial and risk management.
  • Deep knowledge of professional services from business development to project close-out.
  • Understanding of design discipline coordination requirements.
  • Strong business acumen, including risk management, business development, and contract negotiations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and with diverse teams.
  • Meticulous, proactive, enthusiastic, and flexible.
  • Leadership, influence, and persuasion skills with integrity.
  • Experience with federal projects and familiarity with FAR and government regulations.
  • Ability to work on US Government projects; security clearance a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel to project sites domestically and internationally.
  • Access to project sites for observation and evaluation.
  • Use of office equipment for communication and documentation.
  • Visual acuity for responsibilities.
