Family Services Caseworker

Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County is seeking a full-time caseworker. The candidate will navigate client applications. Conduct one on one case work advocating for low and medium income households requesting basic needs. Assistance includes; Homeless Crisis Response Program (HCRP), utility assistance, diapers/formula, prescription assistance, clothing, hygiene items and other supportive basic needs to assist individuals and/or families toward self-sufficiency. You may conduct one-on-one budget sessions. You must be experienced with diverse populations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following And Other Duties That Are Assigned:

  • Communicate effectively with individuals and/or families facing hardship and/or complex issues.
  • Problem solve client cases while utilizing internal and external referral resources.
  • Work with both short-term and long-term clients concurrently.
  • Must have excellent written, verbal and phone communication skills.
  • Learn and have a working knowledge of HCRP, Homeless Crisis Response Program.
  • Engage in client advocacy needs with landlords, utility companies, other assistance programs and/or other consumer related partners.
  • Follow the Fair Housing Landlord Tenant Rights best practices.
  • Must be detail-oriented and well-organized with the ability to record case notes in a timely manner.
  • Efficient time management and organizational skills, ability to adapt in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Work with grants/special funding and follow compliance and documentation guidelines.
  • Demonstrate commitment to strengths-based approaches to service delivery, principles of self-determination and person-centered planning.
  • Follow and practice financial literacy best practices, related topics, focusing on household budgeting.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity toward economic and cultural issues.
  • Understand and respect individual choices and diversity, and provide dignity and respect to all in need.
  • Basic math and computer skills are necessary and used daily.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check according to ORC.
  • Work up to a 7.50 hour day, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Training and/or experience with diverse populations.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word and electronic management databases.

Education And/or Experience:

  • Associate's Degree in Social Work, or a related field, or two years' experience preferably in the human services or behavioral health field. Bilingual is a plus.

Reasoning Ability: The position requires an ability to work with vulnerable populations. The position requires use of good judgement, objectivity, dependability, and professionalism.
