Adelphi is seeking licensed Physicians (MD or DO) to provide primary medical care and clinical oversight to individuals in custody within a correctional facility in Whatcom County, Washington State. The ideal candidate will have experience in correctional, public health, or underserved clinical settings and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care in a secure environment. Job Quick Facts • Ref#: BD-1016-09 • Profession: Physician (MD or DO) • Specialty: Primary Care Correctional Healthcare • Job Type: Contract • Location: Whatcom County, Washington State • Coverage Type: Onsite • Service Setting: Correctional Facility • Facility Type: County Jail • Shift Schedule: Full-time or part-time (including availability for urgent needs) • Compensation: 135-$155/hour Requirements • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State • Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or equivalent specialty • Valid DEA registration and NPI number • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience (preferably in correctional, public health, or primary care settings) • Familiarity with NCCHC standards and relevant Washington State healthcare regulations • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment skills • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening • Current CPR/BLS certification (AHA-approved) Responsibilities • Deliver primary and urgent medical care to individuals in custody. • Conduct intake physicals, manage chronic illnesses, and perform follow-up assessments. • Respond to medical emergencies and acute care situations promptly. • Prescribe medications and oversee medication management protocols. • Collaborate with nurses, physician assistants, mental health professionals, and custody staff. • Document all clinical encounters accurately and promptly in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). • Participate in mortality reviews, quality improvement efforts, and clinical case reviews. • Ensure compliance with NCCHC standards and all applicable local, state, and federal healthcare regulations. • Support infection control initiatives, detoxification monitoring, and chronic care coordination.
