ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Carries out goals, policies, and activities designed to implement community and family engagement and performance standards.
  • Assists with preparation and distribution of recruiting information and material.
  • Recruits low income children and children with disabilities, through a variety of methods including door-to-door visits.
  • Maintains a full child enrollment through on-going recruiting.
  • Notifies office of upcoming moves or changes in enrollment.
  • Maintains a waiting list at the center that is established by the Eligibility, Recruitment, selection, Enrollment and Attendance (ERSEA) Specialist.
  • Conducts home visits as scheduled and on an as needed basis.
  • Informs families of the need for child's physical, immunizations, medical reports etc., at the direction of the Family and Community Services Coordinator.
  • Participates in all center team meetings.
  • Assists team members in maintenance of resource files and shares information in the form of monthly newsletters to parents as approved by Family and Community Services Coordinator.
  • Develops and maintains a calendar of events for parents and staff.
  • Participates in self-assessment validation process as approved by Family and Community Services Coordinator.
  • Participates in case conferences as required.
  • At the direction of the Family and Community Services Coordinator, the Family Advocate assists parents in the election of Policy Council representatives and the formation of parent groups
  • Refers families to all needed resources and community services and advocates on their behalf.
  • Transports parents to Head Start activities on an as needed basis.
  • Helps parent volunteers understand Head Start procedures and regulations (eg. PPD Tests, Policies and Procedures, etc.).
  • Maintains all required records and documentation in locked files. Inputs family contacts, Family Partnership Agreement, referrals, goal progress, and etc. into CAPTAIN at least weekly.
  • Assists classroom staff with ensuring the appropriate documentation of Non Federal Share for all volunteers and donations to the classroom. Acts as a liaison between families and center teams and outside agency referrals, as directed by the Family and Community Services Coordinator.
  • Reports any instances of child abuse/neglect and provides required follow-up.
  • Attends all meetings and in-services as required.
  • Submits reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains complete inventory for parent's supplies, equipment and library resources.
  • Attends all other required training.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations.
  • Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of Joint Council for Economic Opportunity, Inc.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE At a minimum, a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field within eighteen months of hire, or equivalent coursework (12 credit hours in the above-mentioned fields) as part of an associate's or bachelor's degree. Experience in the field preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
