THE POSITIONUnder general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks involved in the cleaning, maintenance, limited construction, or repair of City buildings, facilities, landscapes and parks. This position is responsible for the Civic Center, parks, Village landscapes, facility, and grounds cleaning, repair, construction, debris and graffiti removal, maintenance, and restroom upkeep. Additionally, the incumbent assembles and repairs office furniture; sets up for meetings and special events; repairs irrigation systems and maintains related timers and equipment. Also, performs snow removal and traffic control duties as needed. A successful candidate in this position will be required to work nights and weekends, respond to after-hours emergency call-outs and perform routine standby duties.THE IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate will possess a knowledge of materials, tools, and methods used in general building construction, repair, maintenance, and upkeep. Additionally, this candidate would have the ability to perform general facility and parks maintenance including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, painting and mechanical repairs, perform light and finish carpentry, properly plant and maintain flowers, shrubs, and trees. A successful candidate will also have the skill to safely and effectively operate a variety of equipment, including power and hand tools in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of facilities and landscapes. This person should also be able to work individually and as part of a team, communicate clearly and concisely, follow written and oral instructions, and observe safety principles and work in a safe manner.QUALIFICATIONS (The following are the minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)Education/Experience: A High School Diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year experience in custodial, facilities, and grounds maintenance are required.Physical ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position requires both indoor and outdoor work; conditions vary from hot to extremely cold temperatures. Requires considerable customer service provided in a professional and effective manner.
