Job Summary

As part of the Workplace Experience (WX) team, provides essential services in supporting the Business for all the Corporate Real Estate, Facility Operations, Infrastructure Maintenance, and Business Services of the workplace.

Job Location: Based in Research Triangle Park, NC, the Lead Facility Engineer has responsibilities for the ~800,000 sq. ft. facility.

2nd Shift: Monday - Friday 3pm - 11pm

Job Requirements

The Lead Facility Engineer is responsible for 24/7 operations and maintenance of critical campus and data center infrastructure and systems. The position requires expertise in data center air conditioning, chiller plant operation, chilled water pumps and piping, air handling units, and associated controls, dampers, and air mixing boxes. Work on critical systems requires adherence to SOPs and work order documentation, with a focus on safety and schedule adherence. Familiarity with emergency power generation and distribution is also required. The engineer must work independently or in a team to troubleshoot and remedy equipment alarms, system faults, and malfunctions, ensuring system readiness, capacity, and redundancy.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate equipment and systems to ensure zero downtime, monitor performance via controls.
  • Optimize energy performance, perform rounds, document, observe trends, and implement energy savings strategies.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and alarms, mitigate losses, stabilize, and restore service.
  • Create SOPs, work plans, and MOPs to reduce operational risks.
  • Verify accuracy of drawings and system labels, and provide feedback for improvements.
  • Act as SME on assigned systems, train others, and certify operations as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC and related equipment.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and maintain logs and CMMS records.
  • Create work orders and evaluate equipment conditions for projects and budget planning.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control system repairs and adjustments as needed.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an Apprentice program or equivalent training in HVAC or stationary engineering.
  • Training in Facilities Technology or Management preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial facilities equipment and systems.
  • Certification for CFC refrigerant recovery required.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, pressure vessel, mechanical, electrical codes, and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and manual skills, including welding and soldering.
  • Understanding of refrigeration principles, psychrometrics, and HVAC concepts.
  • Ability to read drawings and manuals, operate BAS controls, and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Physical ability to perform duties including lifting and working in confined spaces.

Compensation: The target salary range is $80,750 - $119,900 USD, with final pay based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include health, life, retirement plans, PTO, incentives, stock options, and more, varying by region.
