Description & Details: The Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABEN) department has undergraduate and graduate programs in Agricultural Engineering, Precision Agriculture and Agricultural Systems Management. The faculty, staff and students involved with the three programs construct and build a variety of structures and implements for research, Extension programming, and student projects. A person with shop and fabrication skills is needed to help faculty, students and staff with these projects. Research Responsibilities:
- Construct, repair, modify, and test equipment and apparatus for research projects; Construct, repair, modify, and test equipment and apparatus for research projects.
- Perform technical assistance related to the design and construction of research apparatus for faculty, research specialists, undergraduate/graduate students, and other personnel.
- Organize and maintain shop spaces, including keeping tools and equipment in safe working condition, maintaining an inventory of shop equipment and supplies, providing training on how to use shop tools and devices, and providing guidance and maintaining documentation to meet the university's requirements related to shop safety.
- Help with the procurement and purchase of equipment and supplies; and
- Provide service and collegiality to support department research, including a) contributing to a positive and collegial work environment through cooperation and collaboration with others, and b) other duties as assigned.
Teaching Responsibilities:

- Help students with the use of the ABEN Department facilities.
- Teach students how to safely use tools and equipment in shop areas.
- Guide students working on various projects in the shop related to courses taught in the department, such as senior design, capstone, and other course project activities; and
- Provide service and collegiality to support department teaching, including a) contributing to a positive and collegial work environment through cooperation and collaboration with others, and b) other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (following standard University hours); Occasional evening hours Hiring Range: Salary starting at $50,000 - $60,000 + depending on experience Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in machinery or related field, or with equivalent experience
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in agricultural technology or related field, or with equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with electronics and instrumentation; and
- Experience working in an academic environment.

- Proficiency in machining, welding, and fabrication techniques
- Working knowledge with MS Office software
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail.
