Duties Will Include:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fab Lab Instructor will work with the Program Coordinator to develop, grow, and manage partnerships, outreach, and curriculum for the Youth Design Center's primary and satellite fabrication labs.Establish new programs and build community partnerships with an entrepreneurial mindset, working independently and passionately about STEAM education and community service.Plan and manage STEM/STEAM programming for youth and adults in the Fabrication Labs.Manage interns for daily operations, including planning, executing, and marketing programs.Support survey administration and lead data collection for programs.Assist with grant management and reporting.Lead engaging tours of the Center for visitors, officials, and funders.Maintain knowledge of all technology used in the Center, engaging in ongoing research and education to stay current.Learn basic equipment maintenance to ensure technology functionality.Oversee the overall operation of the Fab Lab, developing programs and services to meet community needs.Lead staff, apprentices, interns, coworking members, and volunteers, providing training on lab software, computers, and equipment.Serve as a champion for the Fab Lab, promoting opportunities and maintaining external partnerships.Establish safety protocols for lab use and monitor safety conditions.Manage equipment maintenance, supplies, inventory, scheduling, and supervision of lab staff and interns.Qualifications
Technical degree (ME, CS, IT) or similar experience.Experience with fabrication equipment such as vinyl printers, laser cutters, CNC mills, 3D printers.Experience with manufacturing/industrial and rapid prototyping technology.Proficiency with MacOS, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud.Creative, proactive, strategic thinker.Passion for working with creative youth.Degree in engineering or STEM field with significant technical experience.Experience with image editing, CAD/CAM, and design software.Supervisory and teaching experience.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Proficient in desktop applications.Strong management, problem-solving, organizational skills, and technical knowledge.Ability to lift 60 pounds.Patient, multitasker, team player, and passionate about learning and making.About Youth Design Center
