Job Description :

The Executive Underwriter or Senior Underwriter is responsible for achieving profitable underwriting results to support growth and profit objectives through appropriate risk selection, agency relations, book management, self-development, and assisting in the professional development of others. They handle underwriting and servicing of new and renewal accounts for agents and producers within their territory, ensuring compliance with company standards. They maintain a solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values and uphold organizational standards.

Responsibilities
  • Write and retain a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing, and servicing.
  • Ensure compliance with state filings and adhere to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines.
  • Operate within the authority granted and refer cases to Home Office Underwriting as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with the territory team, keeping management informed of issues and activities.
  • Develop and implement the territory business plan in partnership with the manager, sharing accountability for meeting goals.
  • Train territory staff and clients on underwriting appetite and protocols following corporate guidelines.
  • Act as the referral point within the territory for underwriting matters within authority limits.
  • Coach and collaborate with the team to develop and maintain relationships with agents, producers, and nonprofit organizations, including travel within the territory.
  • Participate in industry events such as agency or association conventions.
  • Provide professional, timely, and courteous communication and service to clients and internal staff, resolving issues related to policies and territory producers.
  • Support staff by providing information and guidance for coverage requests in line with service standards.
  • Collaborate on reports and database updates with the territory team.
  • Gather and communicate market intelligence and stay current with industry trends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired:
  • At least 3 years of underwriting experience in insurance products, with demonstrated knowledge of contract surety insurance, risk selection, methods, and pricing.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to interpret data and make informed, calculated risk decisions.
  • Contribute to tactical and strategic planning.
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Respect for confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% within the territory and to the Home Office as needed.
Preferred:
  • Continuing education.
