Executive Director

JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a passionate animal welfare organization in search of an Executive Director to join its team! This is a unique opportunity for a mission-driven leader to guide a beloved cat sanctuary through its next phase of growth and impact. The Executive Director will operate as the senior leader, providing strategic direction and oversight of all operations, ensuring the achievement of the organization's mission and goals.

This nonprofit operates a dedicated sanctuary for cats in the Finger Lakes region and is committed to enhancing the lives of companion animals through shelter, care, and community engagement. Known for its compassionate service and advocacy, the organization serves as a vital resource for pet adoption and humane education in the local community.

Responsibilities

• Organizational Strategic Plan: Develop and implement a comprehensive organizational plan that aligns with the mission of the organization and guides prioritized initiatives.
• Public Interface: Represent the organization as an advocate to the public with critical constituents, including donors, patrons, visitors, agencies, etc.
• Community Outreach: Utilize existing networks and build new connections that ensure local awareness and support for the goals of the organization.
• Partnership Building: Network and build partnerships with other local animal organizations to identify opportunities and promote collaborative efforts
• Staff Engagement: Create a positive work environment for staff, fostering their contribution, growth and development while maintaining clear performance standards. Work closely and collaboratively with the Shelter Manager.
• Management and Governance: Create and maintain a management structure that keeps pace with the growth of the organization and fulfills its needs. Ensure a governance model that maintains alignment with the Board.
• Fundraising/Development: Lead and manage successful fundraising initiatives to ensure financial stability and growth.

Requirements

• Proven experience in non-profit leadership including the definition of organizational strategy tied to a solid management and governance effort.
• Strong ability to interface with the public at various levels, including donors, patrons, visitors, agencies, and government entities.
• Experience in community outreach, networking, and building connections for advocacy and fundraising.
• Expertise in partnership building with mission-affiliated organizations.
• Demonstrated compassion and passion for animal rescue and welfare, with a personal commitment to animal shelters and welfare.
• Experience in developing a positive work environment, performance standards and management of staff, including both paid positions and volunteers, with various levels of work history.
• Ability to create and manage a governing structure in alignment with the Board that supports organizational growth.
• Successful track record in fundraising.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors.

Salary Range

• Starting at $75k
