Job Description :

The Funds, located at 395 Hudson Street in New York City, employ approximately 135 employees. The Funds' staff is responsible for administering benefits for members of the New York City District Council of Carpenters; monitoring the contribution obligations of approximately 1,055 Contributing Employers to the Funds; and overseeing the Funds' service providers, among other responsibilities. The Funds' combined value is approximately $9 billion. The Funds' participants are highly skilled tradespeople who work on everything from concrete in high-rises to flooring to the installation of precision medical equipment and so much more.

The Funds are governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of six union-designated and six employer-designated trustees. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees, manages the Funds Office, and oversees the day-to-day activities of the Funds.

The Welfare Fund operates a self-funded group health plan which provides medical, hospital, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance, short-term disability, paid family leave, accidental death and dismemberment, scholarship and vacation benefits. It has approximately 12,000 active participants and 7,100 retired participants and beneficiaries receiving benefits, with assets of approximately $677 million.

The Pension Fund , a defined benefit plan, has approximately $4.8 billion in assets. It has approximately 10,322 active participants, 14,461 retired or separated participants receiving monthly benefits, and 5,185 retired or separated participants entitled to future benefits.

The Annuity Fund , a participant-directed, defined contribution plan, has approximately $3.4 billion in assets and is managed by Empower.

The Apprenticeship, Journeyman Retraining, Educational and Industry Fund operates the New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center, which provides training programs to support workers and the needs of the industry at large. It currently trains approximately 900 carpenter apprentices and additional journey-level carpenters per year and has approximately $62 million in assets.

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated leadership in a service industry environment of comparable size and complexity and a strong understanding of the management processes required to successfully operate the Funds. They will have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant business experience, the most recent of which will be in a role of significant senior leadership responsibility. Preferred experience includes :

  • Blend of strategic leadership skills, financial expertise, and administrative acumen.
  • Experience in Taft-Hartley or collective bargaining environment and solid knowledge of employee benefit plans.
  • Accomplishments with mentoring and development of employees, team building and motivation of staff.
  • Demonstrated success in leading efforts to assess and implement process and technological improvements to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into understandable terms.
  • Ability to effectively manage group dynamics and decision-making processes, and to facilitate consensus from diverse and sometimes opposing viewpoints.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operating information into actionable plans.
  • Bachelor's degree and / or CEBS certification preferred.

The position offers a salary range of between $275,000-$375,000 per year based on experience and qualifications.
