Operates a 90 lb. air jackhammer and hand-digs holes with hand digging equipment. Assists work crew in the operations of power digging equipment to assist in the construction and repair of distribution lines by performing the following duties.Include the following. The list of essential functions isnot exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.Directs and participates in hole boring operations: operates the hole borer truck to dig holes and set poles and anchors; operates other digging equipment such as air jackhammer; hand-sets poles as necessary; performs daily inventory on hole borer; determines equipment and materials needed for job; obtains or requisitions materials; notifies property owners of work to be done and/or secures permission to work on owner's property; monitors work zone safety; makes required underground utility location requests.Assists crew with miscellaneous construction and repair tasks: repairs yards during construction or repair performed by the Electric Department; paints, uses cutting torch, pours concrete, and finishes concrete as necessary; digs ditch, lays and covers pipe used in underground wiring construction; picks up brush and debris as necessary; assists with construction and repair at hydro plant as needed.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. In order to comply with the safety specifications of the gear and equipment, the body weight of the employee chosen for this position, fully clothed, wearing shoes or boots and uniform appropriate for the season of the year, must not exceed 300 pounds.The complexity, guidelines, supervisory controls, and supervision responsibilities described below are representative of this position.SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:The supervisor sets the overall objectives and resources available. The employee and supervisor, in consultation, develop the deadlines, projects, and work to be done. The employee is responsible for planning and carrying out the assignment; resolving most of the conflicts which arise, coordinating the work with others as necessary; and interpreting policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives. The employee may also determine the approach to be taken and the methodology to be used. The employee keeps the supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications. Completed work is reviewed only from an overall standpoint in terns of feasibility, compatibility with other work, or effectiveness in meeting requirements or expected results.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:NoneCOMPLEXITY:The work consists of duties that involve related steps, processes, or methods; the decision regarding what needs to be done involves various choices requiring the employee to recognize the existence of and differences among a few easily recognizable situations; actions to be taken or responses to be made differ in such things as the source of information, the kind of transactions or entries, or other differences of a factual nature.
