To serve as a professional staff employee of the Indiana State Police, with primary responsibility to support the Laboratory Division and maintain the evidence system.

- Maintain the evidence system to ensure security and efficiency.
- Coordinate evidence handling activities between contributors and the Laboratory.
- Provide administrative support to the Regional Laboratory Manager, Crime Scene Investigations Supervisor, Crime Scene Investigator, and other staff.
- Accept evidence submitted for examination and storage.
- Ensure safe and secure storage of evidence.
- Control access to evidence storage areas.
- Act as an interface between the Laboratory and contributors.
- Transport evidence within the Laboratory system.
- Evaluate paperwork for evidence submission.
- Maintain accurate records of evidence transactions.
- Ensure evidence is sealed or marked for identification.
- Identify appropriate disciplines for examinations.
- Arrange interactions between analysts and contributors when necessary.
- Store submitted evidence until examined.
- Distribute examination requests to Laboratory personnel.
- Return or release evidence to contributors or owners as appropriate.
- Receive seized or recovered property and issue property receipts.
- Maintain the Officer's Property Log.
- Keep evidence storage areas organized and clean.
- Assist with evidence audits and coordinate the release or destruction of evidence.
- Expedite disposal of property in accordance with Department procedures.
- Photograph evidence pre-trial and post-release as directed.
- Check on completed cases to expedite return to contributors.
- Prepare requisitions for Laboratory supplies used in evidence handling and photography.
- Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System.
- Manage digital images in the database as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to work with spreadsheets, databases, and specialized software.
- Ability to work under pressure and in stressful environments.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to interpret guidelines, rules, regulations, and Laboratory practices.
- Must pass a background investigation.
- Applicants should submit a complete work history, high school transcripts or GED, college transcripts, technical certificates, and military DD214 or NGB22 if applicable.
