Job Summary - Why you'll love this position The estimator prepares the final engineer's estimate for roadway projects of various levels of scope and complexity. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision. This opening is for one of our CAREER-LADDER positions which offers the opportunity for career advancement without having to participate in the competitive selection interview process. Based on your work experience, skills, and education, you will be hired at either the entry or senior level of this job title. As you continue to learn, acquire new skills, and gain experience, you can be promoted to a higher-level position. Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already at rates above the posted salary will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine final salary outcome. Job Location: Jefferson City, Missouri. Consideration will be made for position to be filled at a remote MoDOT District office such as Springfield, Kansas City, Sikeston, Hannibal, St. Joseph, and St. Louis. Responsibilities - What you'll doA day in the life:
  • Prepares final engineer's estimates for projects of various complexity to reflect fair market value.
  • Reviews bids, compares cost estimates, checks for discrepancies, unbalancing, and bid errors, and prepares written documentation concerning these items for presentation to management.
  • Reviews plans, proposals, specifications, and job special provisions.
  • Answers requests from contractors, districts, management, and others concerning bid opening, estimating, specifications, site conditions, production rates, working days and other aspects of highway projects.
  • Maintains current state and federal labor rates by county, equipment rental rates, material supplier information, production rates, and working day schedules for use in development of projects and estimates; maintains historical project cost files.
Qualifications - All you need for success
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
  • Four years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.
Special working conditions and job characteristics:
  • Job requires occasional, statewide and out-of-state, overnight travel.
