Position Overview:

Engineer the Future of Formula 1 Performance with GM PPU!

GM PPU is looking for an exceptional ERS Chief Engineer to lead our innovative Energy Recovery System (ERS) in Concord, NC. In this mission-critical role, you'll push the boundaries of hybrid powertrain optimization to ensure our cars achieve peak performance in the world's most intense racing environment — Formula 1.

As part of our relentless pursuit of excellence, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technology to extract every ounce of performance from our power units. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing race-winning strategies that optimize energy recovery and deployment, giving our cars a competitive edge in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Architecture: Design and oversee the development of advanced ERS architectures, focusing on the MGU-K, MGU-H, and Energy Store components.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously refine ERS performance to maximize power output and efficiency within F1 regulations.
  • Integration: Collaborate with powertrain and vehicle dynamics teams to ensure seamless integration of ERS with other vehicle systems.
  • Strategy Development: Work with race engineers to develop optimal energy management strategies for various race scenarios.
  • Simulation and Testing: Lead ERS simulation efforts and oversee testing programs to validate system performance and reliability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all ERS developments comply with current FIA regulations while pushing performance boundaries.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of ERS engineers, fostering innovation and driving continuous improvement.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with key suppliers and partners in ERS component development.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in high-performance motorsport, with at least 5 years focused on hybrid powertrain systems or energy recovery technologies.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of electric motor design, power electronics, battery technologies, and control systems.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading engineering teams in a high-pressure, results-driven environment.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong capability in data analysis, simulation, and performance modeling of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of FIA technical regulations pertaining to power units and energy recovery systems.
