- Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Operates construction and/or power equipment such as: back-hoe, skid-steer, excavator, compactor, vacuum excavator, and/or jetting machine.
- Operates jackhammers, blowers, saws, and other small power equipment and hand tools to maintain public infrastructure and City owned property.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs some or all of the duties of Maintenance Worker, as required or assigned.
- Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
- Provides first aid assistance as needed on work sites.
- Regular attendance required.
- Provide on-call assistance as needed
Minimum qualifications & RequirementsQUALIFICATIONSEducation, Experience, and Certifications:
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
Equipment Operator I0 to 4 yearsEquipment Operator II3 to 8 years, 3 of which must be related to street/utility systemsEquipment Operator III7 to 12 years, 6 of which must be related to street/utility systemsSenior Equipment Operator12+ years, 8 of which must be related to street/utility systems
- Certifications
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's license (CDL) is required for all equipment operator levels above I.

- Work is performed in field environments.
- May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, and vision to monitor.
- May experience rough or unstable terrain and works in high, precarious places and exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- May be subject to extended periods of bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting or carrying building materials.
- May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents and insects.
- Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
Other Important Duties:
- Provides backup assistance, on-call coverage and support to other City departments as assigned.
- Travels to attend meetings and training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
