What You'll Do As the Environmental Technician, you will assist the Environmental Department with administrative and technical tasks related to regulatory compliance and the implementation of the IPL HSE Management System. You will be responsible for providing constant feedback to direct supervisor of environmental compliance risks/gaps. Other duties will include:
- Ensure compliance with applicable HSE performance standards, objectives, and regulations
- Live and foster the IPL Corporate Values
- Preparation of monthly/weekly/daily reporting data as needed. Monitor and complete actions and obligations as outlined within the SHAERS License Module.
- Coordinate Logistical needs for the handling of disposal of wastewater and Haz Waste Shipments.
- Conduct and document environmental sampling as required by all permits, clean-ups, and regulated activities.
- Conduct sampling and documentation to ensure that proper waste determinations are made and kept for discarded materials. Classify wastes for disposal (RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) Classify and document special waste.
- Review new and existing environmental regulations and advise company management in order to assure full compliance.
- Actively participate in and/or direct environmental projects and routine maintenance of environmental equipment (tank cleaning, waste disposals, etc.)
- Assist Environmental Coordinator in execution and compliance delivery of programs and employee specific training as required to meet regulatory and business needs.
- Implementation and planning for compliance to SPCC, SWPPP, and monitoring of Chemical Inventory.
- Assist Environmental Coordinator in necessary activities to assist production areas and area managers to look for opportunities to ensure compliance.
- Assist in being liaison between area employees and environmental department.
What We're Looking For:
- Associates Degree in related field required
- Bachelor's Degree in environmental science or related discipline such as chemistry, biology, or mathematics desired.
- 2 years of experience with environmental regulations relating to chemical industries preferred.
- Knowledge of environmental programs, controls, liability abatement and management systems
- Basic understanding of national and local environmental laws and regulations. Compliance skills to address corrective action in a prudent manner.
- Ability to interact and discuss issues with regulatory compliance officials.
- Must be willing to undergo and pass an ATF background check as required to be a possessor of explosives
- Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
