Job Description
Performs cleaning duties and other tasks assigned by the Environmental Services Department. Adheres to NS-LIJHS/departmental policies, procedures, and JCAHO/regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs cleaning functions following established procedures promptly.
- Uses properly labeled cleaning supplies as instructed.
- Maintains tools and equipment in good condition; uses supplies efficiently.
- Cleans beds, blinds, ceilings, light fixtures, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, walls, windows, wall tiles, vents, televisions, etc., following procedures.
- Washes and hangs draperies and cubicle curtains.
- Washes and polishes furniture and metal fixtures.
- Sweeps walkways and outside perimeter of the facility, where applicable.
- Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, vacuums, and buffs floors.
- Replenishes soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue as needed.
- Moves furniture for cleaning or departmental needs; may relocate furniture to outside storage.
- Distributes and collects linens, including soiled linen, and delivers to the linen department.
- Collects, cleans, and relines trash receptacles; disposes of waste appropriately.
- Handles infectious waste with care, depositing in designated areas and operating Sani-Pak equipment.
- Moves furniture for maintenance or cleaning purposes and restores it afterward.
- Sets up and breaks down tables, chairs, and podiums for events.
- Removes trash before setting up for meetings or functions.
- Performs related duties as required.
ADA Essential Functions
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a hospital or industrial setting preferred.
- Competency in using buffing, scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, and extractor machines; familiarity with Sani-Pak and cardboard baling machine.
- Ability to lift/carry 15 pounds; capable of walking, climbing stairs, and bending repeatedly during shifts.
- Effective communication skills in English (speaking and reading).
