Environmental Program Manager
Duininck Companies is looking for a motivated, self-starter to join our team as a full-time Environmental Program Manager! Duininck Companies, a family-owned portfolio of businesses with a legacy of nearly 100 years in construction and materials, water management, and real estate, is seeking a dedicated Environmental Program Manager to join our Central Team in Minnesota. This role is pivotal in managing environmental compliance, conducting assessments, and developing and implementing environmental programs, processes, and tools across our portfolio. The goal is to support our mission of leveraging enterprise resources and values to deliver quality projects/products, foster strong relationships, and promote sustainable growth. The Environmental Program Manager is a hybrid role with an office location based in Willmar, MN. The role requires periodic travel to entity locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess environmental compliance exposures and then develop and implement environmental programs and strategies.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments.
- Create and maintain documentation of environmental procedures and policies.
- Advise senior management on environmental policy, regulations, and required actions.
- Coordinate with government agencies, consulting firms, and other stakeholders regarding environmental permits and regulations.
- Monitor and report on environmental metrics and impacts.
- Provide education, training, and support on environmental issues and compliance (Air, Waste, Wastewater, Storm Water, SPCC).
- Oversee waste management and recycling programs.
- Perform risk assessments related to environmental projects.
- Develop and manage budgets for environmental initiatives; secure funding through grants and partnerships when applicable.
- Manage emergency response and contingency plans.
- Investigate environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and innovation.
- Assist with other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 35 years of experience in environmental program management.
- Professional certification such as CEP (or similar) or PMP.
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies and environmental compliance.
- Proven track record of successful environmental program implementation.
- Experience with grant writing and securing funding.
- Ability to establish rapport and effectively advise all levels within the organization.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex environmental information clearly to non-experts.
- Proficiency in project management tools, data analysis tools (e.g., Excel), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to stay current with environmental research and legislation.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to professionally raise concerns and effectively manage conflict.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and vehicle with the ability to travel to periodically travel to entity locations as required to support business needs.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, look at computer screens for extended periods of time, and lift up to 20 pounds, as needed. Position requires dexterity to write and manipulate keyboard and mouse, and ability to hear and speak clearly.
This full-time position comes with a strong benefits package including:
