Role BEPC is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety expert to lead safety and implement safety standards for the company. This role will champion the implementation of our client's One Construction Safety Strategy, and existing operation offering expert technical guidance, risk assessment, and assurance of contractor safety performance. The Safety Direct Responsible Individual (DIR) will be the go-to person for all aspects of safety on the project and will play a vital role in project safety governance, driving risk mitigation, and ensuring compliance with internal standards and statutory health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide project governance support to Project Managers in support of management reviews, developing, and presenting performance metrics, and construction safety presentations.
· Proactively engage with Project Directors to forecast project-level safety risks and work with teams to address emerging risks.
· Assure the Contractors' safety performance and that the contractors implement the plant strategy and work safety practices on site.
· Support the Construction Safety Plan and incident investigations. Assist and monitor the development and completion of corrective actions with the Contractor.
· Provide technical assistance to project leaders as a construction safety SME and assist in the selection of the contractor.
· Review and approve Safety RFP documentation, including the General Construction Safety Plan and the development of lagging performance indicators.
· Assure compliance with the national statutory health and safety requirements for each construction project.
· Lead project-level safety performance reviews.
· Participate in EHS in Design sessions within the region.
· Facilitate project-level communication with internal and external partners to enhance safety communications, lessons learned, best practice sharing, and safe delivery.
· Monitors leading and lagging indicators and escalates unsolved issues according to the Construction Safety Plan.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
· 5+ years' experience in construction safety management, including high-risk operations.
· Deep knowledge of OSHA and other applicable regional/international safety regulations (Ministry of Labor, EU, SAWS, ILO, OH&S).
· Proven experience overseeing contractors on complex construction projects.
· Completion of regional supervisor-level safety training (i.e., OSHA 30hr, etc.),
· Excellent collaboration, communication, and technical reporting skills.
· Current First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
