Department 374 is responsible for revising and improving the current Fast Attack Submarine design as well as developing future submarine concepts to increase submarine relevancy and escalate the US Navy's global undersea dominance during a time of accelerating technological advancements. Department 374 engineers work to advance submarine design and provide engineering support for the development, procurement, installation and test of mechanical and valve components in the areas of weapons handling, weapons launch, retractable masts, hydraulic components/cylinders, steering & diving systems, ship hatches and doors, escape and rescue, towed systems, valves, manual remote operators and other special studies.
