Job Duties

This position will serve to assist the Resident Engineer in Contract Administration of Roadway and Bridge Construction Projects. This includes oversight of all contract administration and inspection duties to ensure projects are built to the intended scope, standards, plans and specifications. They will also supervise and provide training and mentorship to less experienced inspectors. In addition, the incumbent will provide oversight on grading and bridge construction and other work of contractors to ensure compliance with project plans, special provision, standards specification, and specified timetables. They will ensure that the contract work is in conformance with specifications, plans, and special provisions.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for Engineering Specialist, applicants must meet all the following:

  • Three (3) years para-engineering experience (at the Transportation Specialist level or equivalent) that demonstrates the following:
    • Experience as a Chief Inspector on Roadway and/or Bridge Construction Projects
    • Knowledge of all phases of highway and bridge construction practices and procedures, sufficient to conduct inspections of contractor's work and to identify improper work methods and materials usage.
    • Knowledge of MnDOT policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrated ability to review plans and provisions to foresee and mitigate problems before they arise in the field.
  • AND
  • Valid Class D Minnesota Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications

Contract Administration Experience on Roadway and Bridge Construction Projects.

Supervisory or leadwork experience and skills sufficient to ensure construction projects are completed in a timely manner; motivate, lead and train staff; and resolve conflicts with multiple parties.
