Role summary
We are seeking a skilled Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary design, engineering, and execution efforts for complex power generation projects, including gas power generation for microgrids. This role will be responsible for managing all project phases—from conceptual design through construction, commissioning, and handover—ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and on-time, on-budget delivery. You will manage all electrical engineering efforts of the project development phase and ensure a flawless transition from conceptual design through construction, commissioning, and handover, with a primary focus on external work scopes managed with engineering contractors and consultants. This position is based in Dallas, TX or San Juan Capistrano, CA, with occasional travel up to 15% and within commutable distance for the ideal candidate.

- Lead cross-functional engineering teams, consultants, suppliers, and OEMs to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
- Oversee and coordinate feasibility studies, conceptual and FEED designs for power generation systems.
- Coordinate with external parties, engineering consultants, suppliers (turbine OEMs, transformers, BESS, substations), contractors, and EPCs, collecting data for project design and execution.
- Liaise with other teams during procurement, construction, installation and commissioning to ensure QA/QC and safety compliance.
Engineering & Design Management
- Develop work scopes, manage engineering RFP processes, and manage external engineering interfaces.
- Manage electrical design of microgrids and power systems including generation, transmission, and distribution; review design deliverables with civil, mechanical, and control systems disciplines.
- Interpret and validate Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Specify and evaluate alternatives for major electrical equipment.
- Oversee electrical packaging, layouts, and equipment integration (gas turbines, transformers, substations, PV solar, and energy storage).
- Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual design and power systems performance analyses.
- Manage interconnection application processes and coordinate interfaces with retail electric co-ops/utilities.
- Conduct feasibility studies, technical evaluations, and optimization of thermal and hybrid power systems.
- Optimize power plant design for full project lifecycle considering constructability, cost, and operability.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Lead SIL, HAZOP/HAZID workshops, identify risks, and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards including air permitting and emissions modeling.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including off-takers, OEMs, permitting authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Provide regular updates, technical documentation, and progress reports to leadership and clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Systems (Master's preferred).
- 10+ years of total experience, including 5+ years in project engineering management for data centers, critical infrastructure projects, thermal power generation or energy infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience with power generation and critical infrastructure: HV and MV substations, microgrids, data centers, simple cycle and/or combined cycle power plants (CCPP).
- Strong technical expertise in electrical design and system integration.
- Solid understanding of utility-scale power generation, including interfaces for interconnections with US RTO/ISO utilities and electric distribution systems.
- Experience managing RAM (Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability) studies.
- Experience managing SIL, HAZOP/HAZID processes.
- Familiarity with engineering design tools (e.g., ETAP, XENDEE) and project management software (e.g., MS Project).
- PE or EIT certification preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
