Description Dunbarton Corporation is seeking a Engineering Manager to join our team who is responsible for designing, developing, and improving manufacturing systems and processes, including equipment selection, procurement, and integration to meet current and future production needs. This role leads cross-functional collaboration and project management efforts to ensure quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery, while resolving engineering issues and guiding both direct and indirect team members. Essential Job Functions
- Oversees and leads the Engineering Department, coordinating and integrating all activities toward the achievement of established goals and objectives including developing and implementing department policies and procedures
- Introduces, designs, modifies, implements and enforces all safety procedures and policies within the manufacturing and operations areas
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to improve processes and products and reduce costs using knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, LEAN methods, product design, industrial engineering skills, materials and tooling
- Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods recommending changes in designs, tolerances and processing methods and improving OEE
- Provide technical expertise and support to all manufacturing, maintenance and tooling departments, including WRC, Service Centers and the Camden Plant
- Maintain equipment, product and part drawings and ensure proper design tolerances are implemented and maintained to meet customer and quality requirements
- Write, modify, maintain and install machine operating programs and related code and software for production equipment, support equipment and related needs
- Manage the design, procurement, modification, installation, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment, including direct coordination with vendors for equipment design, maintenance, relocation, and repair services
- Trains plant personnel in operation and maintenance of equipment, die preparation and maintenance, and new or existing production methods
- Provide industrial engineering support in the form of time studies, functionality testing, efficiency improvement, and other related activities
- Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and other technical drawings
- Develops the structural design of parts, tools and products using drafting tools, CAD, CAM, SolidWorks, and other similar software and resources
- Conducts research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
- Use the ERP system in an effective and efficient manner to enter and manage purchase orders, bills-of-material, and similar items including training others to use the ERP system
- Effectively utilize spreadsheets to manage engineering and production issues not captured by the ERP
- Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements, including nights and weekends
- Performs other work as directed and required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Knowledge of business, management, and leadership principles as applied in the manufacturing industry
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Skill in the use of computer hardware and software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs
- Skill in the use of various manual and power tools and equipment used in steel fabrication
- Skill in identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts
- Skill in providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained or used
- Ability to think creatively and use alternate thinking to develop new ideas for and answer work-related problems
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with coworkers and customers
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment or similar location
- Five (5) or more years of experience in equipment or process design and project management
- Experience in supervision or management of employees
- LEAN, 6S, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma training
