The Principal Engineer – Mechanical performs high-level engineering analysis, design or re-design, validation, and troubleshooting of complex components for heavy-duty vehicles. Provides integration and execution support for vehicle and component design. Offers technical mentorship in high-level analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and project scope.

Your Impact

  • Responsible for completing projects or parts of projects of moderate complexity on time.
  • May oversee project schedule and budget.
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Perform complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh and industry standards.
  • Prepare and deliver plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.
  • Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines internally and with external suppliers.
  • Provide guidance or mentorship to entry-level engineers.
  • Research, create, and update standard engineering methodologies and procedures.
  • Participate in budgeting, including recommending capital improvements and preparing justifications.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and other resources regarding technical issues.
  • Communicate project objectives clearly to team members.
  • Ensure proper use of engineering criteria and standards, and conduct work within company policies.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Create and maintain project documentation.
  • Perform analysis to support selection of parts, components, and materials.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support.
  • Analyze and resolve engineering issues reported via communication channels.
  • Mentor team members to ensure proper analysis and documentation.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and at least five (5) years of related experience.

Standout Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle systems.
  • Experience with high-level CAD systems.
  • Experience in structural and/or weldment design.

Pay Range

$82,000.00 - $132,800.00
